Nevada Open Road Challenge

For Immediate Release:
Save This Date: May 19 the First Annual
Silver State Speed-Stop Challenge Presented by Baer/VBOX USA Is On!
Phoenix, Arizona (February 10, 2006)-Get ready.get set! The Silver State Classic, Baer® and VBOX USA are teaming up again, this time to present the First Annual Silver State Speed-Stop Challenge Presented by Baer/VBOX USA, set to take place in Ely, Nevada, on May 19, 2006.

This year's competition encourages participants from a much a wider group of competitors than were able to mix it up in the Baer Z2ZT Challenge (zero to 200 mph to zero), first held at last May's running of the annual Silver State Classic Challenge® event. The Silver State Speed-Stop Challenge Presented by Baer/VBOX USA will present a more attainable challenge with a zero-to-100-mph-to-zero performance criteria. The official Zero-to-200-to-Zero competition, known as the "Speed-Stop/SPEED-STOP/Z2Z CHALLENGET," will return in the fall of 2006 at the fall running of the Silver State events. Think of this spring's events as a "tune up" for all potential Z2ZT competitors.

Both events pit competitors against the clock to see who can produce the lowest ET (elapsed time) for a standing start to 100 mph (in May; 200 mph in September) and back to zero. The acceleration distance is strictly limited to a maximum of one mile, allowing nine-tenths of a mile for safe stopping. But the winner of this year's zero-to-100-to-zero format will likely be gunning for completion of this task in 1,500 feet or less! However, Ely, Nevada's 6,500 feet of elevation above sea level and barometric conditions pushed last year's event to an effective air density to over 7,600 feet, so we may find more than a few competitors grateful to have a more substantial stretch of pavement on which to get'r done!

The May 19 Silver State Speed-Stop Challenge Presented by Baer/VBOX USA is open to all serious competitors for an advanced registration fee of $200.00 (go to www.silverstateclassic.com). Discounts will be given for entering multiple Silver State Classic Challenge events. All vehicles must have a current street legal title, registration, license and tag, and all tires must be (DOT legal) street tires with tread (no DOT approved slicks). However, shaved tires will be allowed.

The cars will vie for bragging rights and prizes in four different performance groups:
  1. Compact Performance - up to 220 cubic inch displacement, naturally aspirated with NO POWER ADDERS.
  2. Serious Street - 221 to 360 cubic inch, naturally aspirated with NO POWER ADDERS.
  3. Heavy Metal - 360 to 520 cubic inch, naturally aspirated, NO POWER ADDERS.
  4. Unlimited or "Un-Holy Rollers" - Any displacement, any number of power adders, turbo(s), supercharger(s), nitrous oxide.
Cars will be timed using the new Racelogic "DriftBox," which relies on VBOX USA-based Doppler-shift technology to document performance (see www.driftboxusa.com).

In addition to trophies for first through 3rd place in each of the four classes of competition, there will be prizes for the four class winners and the overall fastest zero- to-100-mph-returning-to-zero competitor. The top place finisher in each class of competition will receive a "DriftBox" from VBOX USA (a minimum of four entries in each class is required for prizes to be awarded). The overall winner will receive a front or rear axle Baer Claw® brake system from any currently cataloged in Baer's extensive line up.

So if your car has what it takes and you are up for action, drag it out to the First Annual Silver State Speed-Stop Challenge Presented by Baer/VBOX USA!

See you in Ely, Nevada, on Friday, May 19, 2006! (Please note: tech and on-site registration is at Sam's Town Hotel, Las Vegas, on Thursday, May 18, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and Friday in Ely from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.).
